a year agoThey say your life is defined by the company you keep! And I 💯 percent believe that, so choose your company wisely! My life was greatly altered in the most positive ways when I met @mikevallely at the age of 14. • Our friendship developed as I dealt with High School life and Mike gained popularity as a successful Pro skater right in front of my eyes. I learned so much from his unspoken leadership. • After that 3pm school bell rang, countless times I jumped on the train from Metuchen, one stop south to Edison and skated a mile or two to Mike’s house so we could go skating. From there we’d skate another mile or two back in the same direction to the Pathmark grocery store lot pictured here, the Noside (Edison backwards) banks pictured in the third photo, or push even more miles up the road to New Brunswick and Rutgers campus. • I had no one else in my life that dedicated to skateboarding. We didn’t drink, we didn’t smoke weed, we didn’t even chase girls. Every once in awhile someone would wrongly judge Mike by his shaved head and cargo pants, and then they’d pan over to me. He was nothing about that type of ignorance. • Life was 100% about skateboarding. We were laser focused and committed, and I owe so much of my skill set to Mike. He was/is like a brother to me. I learned how to toughen up and do tours with 30 demos in 31 days. Skate, drive, occasionally pull over for a hotel stop, rinse and repeat. • It took years for that skill set to grow and mature from the inspiration I drew from Mike and for me to develop into life as a Pro myself, and also what I’d eventually be able to channel into @stereoskateboards. But Mike was definitely a guiding light for what was to come. • We traveled the country a few times together and Mike’s relentless spirit continues, just look at his tour schedule with @blackflagband, it’s unbelievable. We don’t speak that often but nothing has changed a bit over the years when we do catch up. Your probably too busy to see or read this but love you Mike! 🙌🏽 Thank you so much for being such a great mentor. 🔥🖤🔥

3 months agoThe outer jacket of the limited edition of Baxaxaxa “Spells From The Crypt…” was conceptualised as a profane altarpiece, expanding the artwork of the cover of this anthology. It is the result of the exchange of ideas between the band, artist @rotting_reign and DWTMH. The choice of the material and the screen printing technique by @holaporque, is a metaphorical connection between handmade artisan craftwork and the ancient old feeling of Baxaxaxa’s way of understanding and performing Black Metal. This fold out triptych wraps the single pocket regular 5 mm jacket which is printed on the reverse and black flooded in the inside. 10 months ago@thejazzlibrary Collective celebrates the birthday of the great Ornette Coleman! The Big Note section features the animated illustration by artist/ musician @maximiliano_lopez_barrios and Ornette's words from an interview by Quincy Troupe in 1981. Ornette Coleman was simultaneously one of the most beloved and polarizing figures in jazz history. Though now celebrated as a fearless innovator and a genius, he was initially regarded by peers and critics as rebellious, disruptive, and even a fraud. His instantly recognizable, keening, blues-drenched tone always sought to reflect the depth of human emotion and its utterance. Coleman's compositions from "Lonely Woman" to "Snowflakes and Sunshine" freed jazz from chord changes, fixed rhythms, and conventional harmony. The possibilities he opened up for improvised music in the late fifties and early sixties, when he scrapped the conventions of Western harmony and pitch for a conception that was both a leap into the future and a recovery of the blues past, show no signs of being exhausted, and the implications of his more recent work, involving symphonic composition, free-funk, and the "harmolodic" system, are now being worked on by a new generation of musicians, many of whom are alumni of his bands. "What I would hope for is that some kind of healing medicine would be incorporated in these sounds, coming from these ancient instruments. I would like to try and bring about some kind of medical sounds that could actually cure depression, cure whatever it could. I think that some certain people outside of doctors do this now, already, but it's done in such a camouflaged way, you know?"
