4 months agoIs Love Deluxe #Sade’s greatest album? Many, including me, will argue yes. It’s also one of the hardest (and priciest) to find on vinyl with only 12 pressings, mostly for local markets. There have been only 3 pressings that could be considered international (in 1992, 2010 and 2020) with the 2010 and 2020 quite limited. . 3 years agoSharing a sneak peek of my current work in progress! I seriously have been working on this little guy forever... This cheeky fellow is how I imagine a Tree Goblin. His hat is a burr oak acorn cap that I found on a walk, and his face, hands, and feet were meticulously sculpted. His body is built on a wire armature so he can be realistically posed in different positions. His clothing is still in the works, but my wonderful boyfriend @cedarlore taught and helped me forge a copper breast plate and pauldrons that will soon be etched in ferric-chloride acid for a beautiful finish! We’ve been filming the process of his making, and I plan to share detailed video tutorials showing all of it on my soon-to-be launched Patreon page! For example, the tale of Gilgamesh, a Mesopotamian epic dating back to around 2100 BC, describes the psychological impact of war on the titular character, which some interpret as PTSD. Similarly, the Bible, in Deuteronomy 20:1-9, provides instructions for managing soldiers who are fearful or disheartened before battle, which could be seen as an early form of PTSD management. In the 4th century BC, Hippocrates described frightening battle dreams, which can be interpreted as symptoms of PTSD. The Greek historian Herodotus, in the 5th century BC, analyzed the paranoia and hallucinations of soldiers who fought the Battle of Marathon, providing one of the earliest descriptions of what we now understand as PTSD. The term “nostalgia” was coined in the late 17th century by Swiss physician Johannes Hofer to describe Swiss soldiers who suffered from despair and homesickness, as well as classic PTSD symptoms like sleeplessness and anxiety. In the 19th century, the term “railway spine” was used to describe the psychological impact of railway accidents, which included symptoms similar to PTSD. The American Civil War (1861-1865) and the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) marked the start of formal medical attempts to address the problems of military veterans exposed to combat. The term “shell shock” emerged during World War I to describe the psychological impact of trench warfare and artillery bombardments. This term was later replaced by “combat fatigue” during World War II. These terms reflected the belief that the conditions were related to long deployments and were not necessarily permanent. In 1980, the American Psychiatric Association added PTSD to the third edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III), marking a significant milestone in the recognition and treatment of trauma-related disorders. The establishment of the PTSD diagnosis has helped in the scientific study of the condition and in developing evidence-based methods to treat it.

a year agoThe haunting sound that Roman soldiers would have heard from their Celtic enemies before battle was produced by the Celtic Carnyx. This ancient wind instrument was used by the Celts during the period from 300 B.C. to 200 A.D. According to the Greek historian Polybius, the Carnyx was employed in warfare to rouse troops to battle and to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents. 3 months agoAfter a long day, week or maybe even a month of grinding away at work where you’ve had to stay dialed in — take a moment to unwind and completely immerse yourself into the romanticism of being a man. Detach yourself from the constraints of the digital and the corporate, and enter the social. Begin with your body and push it to its fullest with a workout, then freshen up and slide into the style that makes you stand up tall — don’t sell yourself short here. What is it that, when you wear it— shirt, pants, shoes or accessories — makes you come alive with a surge of energy that courses through your veins? Then step out into the world and embrace the life of adventure that we as men are built to experience. You don’t need to plan, you only need to adapt and enjoy. Maybe you stop in to that restaurant you’ve always wanted to go to, which leads to conversations at the bar. Conversations which then take you to a new gallery opening in the art district part of your town and a nighttime drive that reveals a breathtaking view where you pull over and simply take it all in… The beauty of being a man out in the world is that this is what you’re made for — to live on the edge of curiosity, confidence and adventure — gracefully handling any circumstance that comes your way. To deny this inner call that we as men have and shun the opportunity to explore life with confidence and charm, is to withhold from the universe an energy of excitement and inspiration. Who knows who’s life you’ll change — even just a little — when you embrace the unknown and see what kind of trouble you can stir up when you let go of structure, and step into the spontaneity of life. Do it for yourself, yes…but also for the adventurous spirit of manhood that the world so needs today.

3 months agoI hear from men who find themselves in dry spells when it comes to dating. They reveal they can’t meet women or that women aren’t interested in them. Some of these men have been single for years — one man said he had been single for 8 years. When we don’t have something, we want it. When we have something, we take it for granted. Most men would like to have a woman by their side that they can share life with. But the reality is, there will be times in which you don’t have that. Times in which you are a single man, living his life, seeing beautiful women and couples around you enjoying their own company. And you’ll long for that. You’ll want a girl you can call your own, too. On the other hand there are men who are in crummy relationships that long for the single life. They wish they would have spent more time getting comfortable with going for what they really want, instead of settling for all they could get. When all we think about is what we lack and how bad we want something it seems to never come our way. But when we go about our business and enjoy life — truly enjoy it — new people and opportunities appear. A man should not base his happiness on whether or not he’s got a girl. And even if you have been single for 8 week, months or years, longing for love in your life won’t bring it any faster. Although you may believe that having a woman in your life will make it better, ask yourself if you’re using it as a bandaid to make up for pains you don’t want to deal with, or if you’re in fact at a place where you’re able to enjoy life completely on your own, and she’ll be a compliment to an already great life and simply someone to enjoy it with.
