3 months agoA moment for the toile.
In part because T and I have zero chill, and also because we were excited about the prospect of creating something ~together~, @tommasoevaristo aka our resident aspiring architect hand drew this custom toile print and I learned how to use illustrator to put it together via @skillshare (not sponsored but this was uhhhh necessary 😅) for this ode to a microcosm in our corner of the world in Toronto.
We were drawn to toile for its long-held storytelling ability and were inspired by artists like @harlemtoilegirl and the team at Revolver who had their own modern and subversive takes on a Harlem and a Brooklyn toile, respectively. We also loved the work of @decorporpoise!
A sprinkle of “if you know, you know” with a teeny tiny easter egg here and there, this pattern pays homage to some of the heritage of beaconsfield village and some of our most observed landmarks. Naturally, Kevin and all her friends feature throughout.
We love Toronto, even though sometimes it feels like this city doesn’t love us back. Old landmarks turn to new storefronts changing the way things feel, the impact on accessibility, and so much more.
Despite it, sausage dogs don’t care. They simply ask what they need from you, force new perspectives, and forge new friendships. Destinations become journeys with opportunities to stray down a new alley, run into a new friend, or yell at a kid on a skateboard — and at least when it comes to that, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
