If you invest in a high dividend or REIT investment strategy, my modeling shows that if you could replicate the return stream without dividends, you would outperform by 1 - 3 percentage points after taxes. Let that sink in.

The Achilles heel of direct indexing is you end up with a bunch of appreciated stocks. 351 solves this. Prediction: One of the big direct indexing firms will buy one of the white-label ETF shops for $1B+ within the next 5 years. Maybe 3.

If you can replicate a stock return stream in the ETF structure but without dividends, on an after-tax basis, it could outperform by 20-300 bps per year. How is there not more academic literature on this? Almost all the lit assumes ETFs don't exist (ie it's only SMAs)...
