3 months agoTrae Young knows how to use his speed and quickness to his advantage to get defenders going in the wrong direction and finish at the rim with contact. In this clip, he sizes up his defender at the top of the key with a quick triple between the legs and then takes one hard dribble with his left hand while having his face and eyes directed at the slip screen coming towards him. The second his defender realizes and shifts focus toward the screen, Trae takes a hard step with his right foot and spins back to the right side while dropping the ball into his right hand, away from the defender. 3 months agoIt’s so important when you drive to the basket to play off your pivot and be patient around the rim until you get an angle to get a shot off. That is exactly what Kyrie did on this play, showcasing his patience and poise in the paint. Kyrie starts on the left wing and drives hard to the middle of the paint. Once he gets cut off by the defender, he does a fake spin toward the baseline while keeping his pivot on his left foot. Afterward, he immediately pivots back, squaring his body to the basket and shot fakes by raising the ball above his head while remaining low. He notices the defender bite on the shot fake, then spin pivots again past the defender jumping in the air and shoots a baby mid-range jumper off the glass, leaning toward his left. Remember to play off your feet in the paint and pivot until you can get your shot off or make the correct read to a teammate.
