Wine drinker Wine obsessed. Just ask my wife.

5 months agoBrought these two wines to our local Northern #Italian resto. 2017 #Heitz-Lochardet (#ArmandHeitz) #Meursault En La Barre. Beautiful straw color, fleshy with minerality, nice mouthfeel, mostly stone fruits, apples, citrus, relatively easy to guess Meursault. Armand’s mother Brigitte leased her vines for twenty-five years to Maison Joseph Drouhin, who farmed the land organically. About a decade ago that lease expired just as Armand finished his oenology studies. Environmental sustainability is the basic principle of Armand’s philosophy. His winemaking style that is as hands-off as possible. He makes both red and white wines. The range of his #whiteburgundy goes from Bourgogne Blanc to Chevalier Montrachet. 2015 #ElioAltare #Barolo. Reddish-orange brick color, lighter, medium bodied, not viscous, light on its feet. Red berries, tobacco, spice, anise. Very enjoyable with our food. Great QPR. Elio Altare is among the Modernists producers of Barolo, young winemakers who came up in the early 1980s. Angelo Gaja was probably their intellectual forebearer. They produce wines that are ready to drink at an earlier stage using modern winemaking techniques. The alcoholic fermentation is shorter with better temperature control. This means that the tannin is extracted from the skins more quickly and in smaller quantities. The wine is then aged in small oak barrels, often French barriques. This also helps to give the wine tannins, but also flavor, gaining more sweetness and notes of vanilla as well as tobacco.
