3 months agoThe Porsche 356 America Roadster was developed in cooperation with coachbuilder Gläser-Karosserie GmbH in Ullersricht near Weiden in der Oberpfalz – roughly 300 kilometres from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. It was intended to serve as an entry-level model for the US market and therefore was fitted with only very spartan equipment levels. The hand-built aluminium body made the vehicle 60 kilograms lighter than the 356 Coupé, but it also made production noticeably more expensive. And transportation from Gläser to Porsche was expensive, too. As a result, the America Roadster could not be offered at a lower price than the Coupé and the collaboration with Gläser was quietly dropped after only a few examples had been built.
3 months agoDetails – lots of lovely details. The early 930-generation 911 Turbo 3.0 came with wider wings than the normal 911 of the time. The rear wing was also new and one of the most famous nicknames in Porsche history was born: whaletail. Back in the mid-1970s it was still ok in many countries to sell a car with only one wing mirror – the second one was optional and only became mandatory towards the 1990s. #TurboMoment
