a year agoMixed-aged grouping allows kids to interact at different social levels and in ways that resemble real-life interactions. Think about it: Older kids benefit from teaching and helping younger kids (and research shows that the best way to learn something is to teach it, so they get to crystallize their learning) and younger kids learn more and faster because they attempt to do what older kids are doing… there are no speed limits. I got to student teach at several mixed-aged schools and I was always surprised by what the younger kids were able to accomplish when you removed the barriers (aka grades) Overall, it’s a more natural and effective way to learn and socialize.
