6 months agoMany people have asked how we dispatch rabbits on our farm. Here’s a quick video where I talk about the three methods I’m most familiar with and have personally used: 1. Cervical Dislocation (Broomstick Method) - This involves placing a stick or broom handle across the back of the rabbit’s neck and pulling the hind legs upward to dislocate the spine quickly. 2. .22 Rifle - A quick, precise shot to the head for an instant and humane dispatch. 3. Blunt Force Trauma - A swift, forceful strike to the head that renders the rabbit unconscious or kills it instantly. It’s important to me that we approach this process both ethically and humanely. Raising rabbits and other livestock for food is a serious responsibility, and part of that is ensuring that the animals are dispatched in the most respectful and humane way possible. This isn’t just about producing food; it’s about embracing the entire process of being self-sufficient on a small farm. Taking on the burden of taking life is never easy, but it’s a necessary part of living a self-sufficient lifestyle.
