People always ask, āWhatās the best part of what you do?ā For me, itās simpleāitās being around the game I love and giving back to the community. As summer winds down, Iāve been reflecting on my athletes and how many of them have spent their time doing just thatāgiving back. My favorite way of giving back has always been through hosting youth camps.
Iāll never forget my first camp at the West Oakland Boys and Girls Club. I was around 9 or 10, and it was hosted by NBA player @kelenna7. I was nervous as hell, not just because it was my first time shooting in a real gym, but because an actual NBA player was there!
The camp ended up being one of the best experiences Iāve ever had, life changing actually. Even though I was too shy to go up and say hi, just sharing the gym with him, wearing the same shirt as he had on, and just being in his presence alone was enough.
I share this because Iām so proud of my guys for always giving backāwhether itās their time or resources. Theyāre creating moments that will stay with the kids forever.
Something I love is when weāre going through contract negotiations, and almost always an athletes first question is āI want to have a camp for kids back home, Can yāall help support that?ā
Yāall know what the answer always is.
