2 months agoI’ll never forget the day I realized that I needed to make a change. I was in my fourth year as an attorney at Paul, Weiss. All of the external markers of “success” were there, but I had never felt so void. Deep down, I knew that I was further than I had ever been from my purpose and passion - the game of basketball. That same day, Nipsey Hussle’s song “Respect Ya Passion” came up on shuffle. In it, he says:
“make a master plan, watch it backfire / burn it all down and collect the ashes / build it back / respect your passion”
I knew it was time for me to “burn down” my career as a corporate lawyer, collect the ashes, and build my career in basketball. It was time for me to respect my passion.
The last 5 years have been filled with high highs, low lows, and sacrifice after sacrifice, but I am so thankful for all parts of the journey that lead me to where I am today.
I rarely post to the grid or give y’all these long captions, but I hope this message encourages someone who feels stuck and is questioning whether or not to follow their heart. Don’t let fear or doubt hold you back from chasing your dream. I’m living proof that you might just catch it.
Thank you to @monumental_sports and the entire @washwizards organization for this opportunity. Let’s get it @capitalcitygogo !
