5 years agoWhen I started my collection I was obsessed with exploring and interrogating classical male archetypes... I was more interested in the idea of recycling image and identity... in my quest to understand our universal obsession with these archetypes I started with military... I began making classic silhouettes out of the most basic and functional elements... tents, duffel bags... I’d visit the warehouses of all of my flea market friends and find them sitting in storage, in large piles collecting dust...
I never wanted to throw anything away because I loved the visual aesthetic so much, and I some how felt connected to every detail... i didn't realize how many scraps we were hoarding, and how now my scraps were sitting in a pile collecting dust.
It was time to put the creative juice to the test. It was easy for me to make pieces out of large beautiful pieces of vintage fabrics with patina, texture, details, amazing weathered colors, stories, a soul... what could we do with the thousands of mismatched scraps and fragments which came from those?
