5 months ago‘The team did it again in Santa Pola🤯. We tagged and released 10/11 bluefin tunas from 50kg to 320kg in three chumming fishing days, ending with a double header of 180kg and 240kg that was tagged as part of the @scientificangler Tagging Tour 2024 for @ifremer_officiel . Our material was tested to the limit and resisted without problems @howkfishing @salitre_fishing_canarias @vmchooks . We broke a @blackmagictackle harness after some tough fights though… We worked together along very talented anglers (and friends) from all over the country and the event was a total success despite of the bad weather. A big thank to all the sponsors of the event (@simradyachting @suzukimarine_es @roegele_the_plastic_engineers @clubnauticosantapola ) and organisers scientificanglers for making this possible🙏🏼🙌🏽. The idea was to tag big individuals that could shed light on the spawning behaviour and migrations of the species. As the waters warm up in May, these fish enter the Mediterranean Sea in search of oligotrophic waters (those with few prey and predators for their larvae to survive easier). Santa Pola is a feeding ground along their migration across the underwater canyons that guide them to the Balearic Islands.
