3 months agoReal-world use of the Sprint Mechanics Assessment Score (S-MAS) in team sports with @‌ConnorSchoepp Comment with the word 'SMAS' and we will DM you a link to this Sportsmith Premium article* The Sprint Mechanics Assessment Score (S-MAS) provides an objective way to evaluate sprint mechanics, addressing a common challenge in sports performance where sprint form can be subjective. Developed by Chris Bramah and colleagues, the 12-question battery focuses on five phases of the sprint cycle, helping practitioners identify mechanical inefficiencies that may lead to performance loss or injury risk. One of the key benefits of S-MAS is its ability to reveal common mechanical issues, such as excessive lumbar extension and anterior pelvic tilt, which can hinder sprint efficiency and lead to injuries. By addressing these issues, athletes can improve performance and minimize injury risks. The assessment system also highlights other inefficiencies, like excessive plantar flexion, often found in soccer players, which can be corrected through targeted drills. But is it a practical solution for team sports? Join Connor Schoepp in this edition of Sportsmith Six to find out by discovering the answers to the questions: ✅ What are the key benefits of using the Sprint Mechanics Assessment Score (S-MAS) in team sports performance? ✅ How is the S-MAS scoring system structured, and what does it reveal about an athlete's sprint mechanics? ✅ What are some common mechanical issues identified by S-MAS, and how do they affect an athlete's performance and injury risk? ✅ Can you take us through what you did with a particular athlete based on their S-MAS score? ✅ What are the key challenges in implementing S-MAS in a team setting, and how can practitioners overcome them? ✅ How do you recommend integrating S-MAS findings into a broader training or rehabilitation program for athletes? *A Sportsmith Premium account is needed to access the full Sportsmith Six #sportsmith #strengthandconditioning #sportsscience #sportscience #strengthcoach #conditioningcoach #performancecoach #performancecoaching #sandc #SMAS #InjuryPrevention

3 months agoThe legend @ash_dykes has completed his mission 🙌 Source to sea in one of the most uncharted areas of the world 🗺️👏 Here's what he's said: “WE DID IT!!!!!! 🤩😍🍾 We just created history, achieved a world first record, by becoming the first to kayak from source to sea of the Coppename River, here in Suriname, the Amazon!!!! 600km, 37 days, the greenest country on the planet with over 94% jungle coverage and certainly one of the most stunning countries I’ve had the honour to travel through. It’s been unbelievably difficult, from pulling the 50kg kayaks upstream, hacking through the jungle covering sometimes 600m in a day! Stings, bites, infections, dehydration, sleep deprivation, starvation, heat exhaustion and no sign of people in over a month. We truly became the wild, adapted, survived and thrived in one of the most difficult environments on the planet, to set out and achieve what many said was impossible. I’m so proud of us as a team @wallace_untamed, @unlockwildlife, @jacobhudsn and it was an honour to battle through and experience this with you ❤️ A personal thanks to @ftwglobal whom I wouldn’t have been able to do this without 💙 To @unlocknature.tours for organising all the logistics 🙏🏼 To @viasat & @globalsat who allowed me to share the journey live time. To Suriname and the people here who have made it so special. And finally to all of YOU for your support, I appreciate you all so much 🫡 Mission accomplished ✔️”

running on a dream . @theaudaciousreport . @golifeforce .

4 months agoTHE 2024 LEADVILLE 100 I’ve been in the running game for a minute but this race was different. My pursuits up until this year were all about pushing distance. How far and for how long could I go - with not a lot of concern for the nuances of training. I had a linear and simplistic look at a nuanced pursuit. It served me well but left me with hints of imposter syndrome. I knew I had never truly applied myself or the resources at my disposal. For reasons I may or may not get into at some point, I had a reckoning. A desire to not hide behind distance and instead lay it all out there to see just how far I can push my abilities. Could I perform at a high level? This race’s preparation was the first dive into full potential. I have no desire to live in or project any false pretenses that I am or could be THE best. There will always be a @mountainroche or @eatrunandbemary around every corner. But I’ve made a promise to myself and those who follow along, I will find MY best. A lot of lessons learned this weekend. I’m proud of my preparation and content with my performance. The first step in this journey to peak performance. 📷: @yaboiglue
