8 months agoNot only the tallest mountain but also the largest waterfalls in the solar system was hosted by Mars 3.7 billion years ago. The area is called Echus Chasma. Echus Chasma is a chasma in the Lunae Planum high plateau north of the Valles Marineris canyon system of Mars. Using detailed images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, the researchers speculate that there may have been increased volcanic activity, meteorite impacts or shifts in Mars’ orbit during this period to warm Mars’ atmosphere enough to melt the abundant ice present in the ground. This event, which happens approximately every 80 years, involves a binary star system where a white dwarf and a red giant exchange material until a runaway nuclear explosion occurs. This explosion results in a temporary increase in brightness, resembling the appearance of a new star in the sky. The upcoming event will mark the third time humans have observed it since its discovery in 1866. Astronomers are eagerly awaiting the event, which will provide valuable scientific insights.
